Lake Annecy Triathlon 2026: The Guide, With or Without a Race Bib

26-27 September 2026 at the Pâquier: youth races on Saturday, the Olympic format from 8 a.m. on Sunday. Times, where to watch, how to live the weekend.

On the last weekend of September, the Pâquier changes jobs: the great lawn becomes a bike park, the lake a start line, and the quays a grandstand. The Lake Annecy Triathlon returns on 26 and 27 September 2026 — and whether you’re holding a race bib or a coffee, it’s one of the year’s finest sporting spectacles at the water’s edge.

The weekend programme

Saturday 26 September — the day of the other formats: the adaptive-sport race starts at 1.30 p.m. (welcome from 12.30), then the youth races from 3 p.m. (welcome from 2). Sunday’s competitors collect their bibs from 3 to 7 p.m.

Sunday 27 September — the big day: bib collection and bike-park opening at 6 a.m., the Olympic format off at 8 a.m., solo or as a relay. The sequence: about 1.5 km of swimming in the lake, 47 km of cycling, 10 km of running along the shores.

Everything happens at the Pâquier — start, transitions, finish — five minutes’ walk from the old town.

Why this triathlon is worth watching

Swimming in late September is only possible thanks to a quirk our readers know: the lake holds summer’s heat weeks behind the air — September water is kinder than June’s. And the bike leg follows the shores that lake-loop cyclists ride all year — but flat out, on roads cleared for the occasion.

Spectator’s manual

It’s a free show, and the best slot is the earliest:

  • 7.45-8.15, the swim start. Hundreds of swim caps in the morning mist, watched from the quays or the Pâquier bank — the weekend’s finest image, in postcard light.
  • The transitions at the bike park: the strategic heart of the race, visible from the Pâquier.
  • The run along the shores: several laps past the public — the right spot to cheer someone on repeatedly without moving.

Adopt the weekend reflex: traffic and parking are constrained around the waterfront — come on foot or by bike, as for everything that matters in Annecy.

Participant: the three things not to miss

  • Saturday bib collection (3-7 p.m.) spares you an even earlier Sunday alarm.
  • The bike park opens at 6 a.m. — by the lake at that hour it’s chilly: bring layers for the wait.
  • Late-September water is still alpine lake water: the wetsuit is not a fashion accessory.

What we wouldn’t do

  • Drive to the Pâquier on Sunday morning. The area is the heart of the event — on foot or by bike, everything is easy.
  • Sleep through the start. By 8.20 it’s done: the weekend’s strongest moment lasts twenty minutes.
  • Improvise an entry. Places go well in advance — registration happens on the official site, not on the day.
  • Confuse spectacle with swimming. The water is reserved for the race on Sunday morning — the beaches take back their rights in the afternoon.

The triathlon is the lake season’s true closing ceremony: the following week, autumn settles in and the Pâquier goes back to being a lawn. Come watch the lake serve one last time as a stadium — the rest of the week’s fixtures are on the calendar.
