Things to do in Annecy at night: sunset, concerts, shows, dinner on the lake

In the evening, Annecy becomes another town. The day visitors leave, the quays empty, the light drops over the lake and the old town is handed back to its residents. You don’t come here for big-city nightlife — you come for these hours. Here is how to fill them, from sunset to the last bus.

The sunset, first

It is the real evening appointment, and it is free.

• By the water: the Pâquier and avenue d’Albigny. The great lawn facing the lake, the mountains opposite turning pink — ten minutes’ walk from the old town.
• Up high: the Col de la Forclaz and the Taillefer. The tourist office names them for sunset: the Forclaz at 1,147 m above Talloires, the Taillefer at 505 m above Duingt. You need a car: drive up early enough to be at the top before the sun touches the ridges, and expect to come down in the dark.
• Over the rooftops: the Côte Saint-Maurice and the courtyard of the castle look out over the old-town roofs — better in the late afternoon, as the castle closes before nightfall.

A concert: Le Brise Glace

Annecy’s contemporary music venue, at the Marquisats, by the lake: about a hundred concerts a year, in a 483-seat main hall and a 120-capacity club. Rock, jazz, folk, electronic — and open nights, like the open decks where amateur DJs take turns. The line-up is on our what’s on page.

A show: Bonlieu and the other stages

• Bonlieu Scène nationale, in the town centre by the lake: theatre, dance, music, three halls (964, 270 and 140 seats) and a season of about 70 shows. This autumn the season opens with Carmen by the Tunis Opera Ballet.
• The Auditorium de Seynod: 400 seats for theatre, dance, music and film-concerts.
• The Théâtre des Collines: two venues, the Théâtre Renoir in Cran-Gevrier and Le Rabelais in Meythet.
• The Salle Pierre Lamy, in the town centre, for talks, plays and touring comedians (in French).

A film in original version

• Le Mikado, place Annapurna: an art-house cinema, foreign films subtitled in French (VOST) — English-language films are shown in English.
• Les 4 Nemours, 2 place Sainte-Claire, a step from the old town: films in VOST too.
• Pathé Annecy, avenue de Brogny: ten screens for mainstream releases.

Dinner on the lake

The Libellule, the Compagnie des Bateaux’s electric boat, is the lake’s dinner cruise: boarding at 7:30 pm at the Quai de la Tournette, departure at 8 pm, back at 10 pm — two hours on the water as night falls on the mountains. In 2026 it sails from 30 March to 1 November. Book, obviously.

The old town, after the crowds

After 9 pm, the old town becomes Annecy’s finest walk again: the canals, the Palais de l’Isle, the arcades almost empty. It is the hour when you understand why it was built on the water.

As for museums, there are no regular late openings: the castle and the Palais de l’Isle close in the late afternoon. The exception is the Nuit des musées (Museums Night), every year in spring.

Getting back without a car

In 2026 the Sibra network extended its evenings on a trial basis: Rythmo lines 1, 2 and 3 and lines 15 and 20 run later, until 17 October 2026. Normally, the Rythmo lines end around 12:30 am and lines 15 and 20 around 11 pm. Check your last bus before dessert.

What we wouldn’t do

• Look for a giant nightclub. Annecy is lived in concerts, shows and terraces, not clubs.
• Eat at 8 pm on the quays on a summer Saturday. Everyone had the same idea.
• Skip the sunset for an indoor aperitif. It is the free show of the day.
