El Pueblo, tapas and cocktails in Annecy
Our take
Our favourite tapas bar near the station: transporting decor, well-judged sharing plates, and efficient service even on a full house.
El Pueblo took over from the old Poney Club on rue Sommeiller, a short walk from Annecy station. The name changed, and so did the mood: cocktails, sharing plates and a look that owes more to Mykonos or Tulum than to the Alps. We’ve eaten there, and we go back.
What to order
The menu is built for sharing: creamy burrata, gyoza, bao buns, Iberian ham, home-made patatas bravas. It’s designed for putting together a table between several people rather than one plate each. Tapas run roughly €8 to €14, cocktails more like €11 to €15. At lunchtime the same kitchen turns into the Cantina, serving street food instead — tacos, burgers, quesadillas.
The room
The dining room is small and fills up fast at weekends, so book ahead for dinner. Reviewers keep mentioning quick service and a warm, almost neighbourhood welcome, even if the decor takes a moment to place in a town that otherwise leans Savoyard.
This isn’t a quiet-dinner-for-two kind of place: it’s the sort of spot you pick with a group, drink in hand, before moving on somewhere else — or not.
